A child this day is born

This lively setting of an English traditional carol was composed in 2009 for David Ogden and Exultate Singers. It is scored for SATB choir and piano: an orchestral score and parts (1,1,1,0-1,2,0,0-timp.perc.-str.) are also available.
The music is written in a propulsive triadic style that possibly pays homage to the music of William Mathias. Each verse has a different treatment and the music grows to a loud and triumphant coda on the repeated word “Nowell”.
