Bread of heaven

This simple strophic setting for mixed voices and organ of the well-known communion hymn by Josiah Concder was written in 1993 at the request of my good friend, Mark Roberts. It was premiered in the chapel of St Chad’s College, Durham and published by Oecumuse in 1994.
It features a hymn-like tune sung in unison for the first verse and with added-note harmony a cappella for the second verse, finishing on a short Amen with a quartal harmony last note.
