Do not stand at my grave and weep is an uplifting and well-known poem that is often read at funerals and public occasions. For many years its authorship was uncertain but it is now believed to have been written in Baltimore in 1932 by Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905—2004) to comfort a family friend who had just lost her mother. It appears to be Frye’s only surviving poem. This simple musical setting, for SATB choir, was written in fond memory of Martha Oakes, a young girl from Bristol who died in March 2019.
