This sweeping setting of the hymn by George Matheson (1842–1906) was composed for SATB choir and piano/organ in late 1992 and lightly revised in 1994. Over a slowly changing arpeggiated accompaniment, each of the four verses is given a different treatment: upper voices, lower voices, SATB a cappella in the relative minor and the final verse features extended harmony, a descant and winding down coda on Amen.
