Shades of Love

Shades of Love is a song cycle of five songs on the theme of memories of love featuring settings of poems by Christina Rossetti, Sara Teasdale and John Clare. The songs were written over the period 2006-2009 and were my first cycle of art songs. They were premiered at a concert in Bristol on my 40th birthday in June 2009.
The title reflect the multiple possible meanings of the word shade:
1. a reminder of something: shades of the Inquisition.
2. a spectre or ghost.
3. a slight variation or degree: a shade of difference.
