The St Mary Redcliffe Mass
Composed in 2014|Difficulty: Moderately easy
This simple mass setting was commissioned by Andrew Kirk in 2014 for Beccy Holdeman and the Occasional Choir of St Mary Redcliffe Parish Church, Bristol. It is scored for two-part choir: upper voices (soprano and tenor) and lower voices (alto and bass). as some of the choir were not fluent readers of music notation, I sought to make the music fairly easy to learn, with repeated motifs, sequences, scalar passages and simple canons. The setting is available in two different words editions – Book of Common Prayer (1662) and Common Worship (2000) – and also in two scorings: unison/2-part voices and organ or SATB and organ.
