Three Birthday Songs

07:00 duration|Composed in 2010–2012|Difficulty: Quite Difficult

This short set of three songs was written as birthday presents for the soprano Antonia Taylor in the years 2010–2012. They set poems by the poets Mathilde Blind, Sara Teasdale and Michael Field, a pseudonym used for the poetry of Katherine Bradley and her niece and ward Edith Cooper.

In composing these songs I sought to explore a range of musical and compositional techniques such as cluster chords, mirror harmony and altered diatonic chord structures.
